How much does it cost to put an obituary in the Toledo Blade? ›

Any of our Directors at Ansberg-West will assist you in composing your obituary. The Toledo Blade charge is approximately $70 per inch. A photo may be added to the obituary at an additional cost of approximately $75 for black & white and $125 for color.

Many funeral homes publish obituaries on their websites. These can usually be located with a Google search on the person's name. Local genealogical and historical societies, public libraries, and some newspaper publishers maintain clipping files of obituaries.

Why does it cost so much to post an obituary? Publishing an obituary in the newspaper is expensive because of the limited space papers have. Newspapers value every inch of each page, so they must charge to use that limited space for an obituary.

The fee for certified copies of birth or death certificates is $25 per copy. Methods of Payment include cash, check, credit card, or money order. Due to changes in State law, we can no longer provide uncertified copies of birth or death certificates. Please make check payable to: Toledo-Lucas County Health Department.
