Is Amazon Macie only for S3? ›

Although Macie is optimized for Amazon S3, you can use it to discover sensitive data in resources that you currently store elsewhere.

Chunk Size

The Amazon S3 Best Practices says the typical size for byte-range requests is 8-16MB. It would seem that chunk sizes on the order of 10MB or 100MB are most optimal for Cloud usage.

The total volume of data and number of objects you can store in Amazon S3 are unlimited. Individual Amazon S3 objects can range in size from a minimum of 0 bytes to a maximum of 5 TB.

GuardDuty focuses on detecting and responding to threats and security vulnerabilities in your AWS environment. Macie focuses on discovering, classifying, and protecting sensitive data stored in AWS, helping you maintain data privacy and compliance.

For S3 Intelligent-Tiering, objects smaller than 128 KB can be stored, but they are always charged at the Frequent Access tier rates. Transitioning large numbers of small files to infrequent access tiers can also be cost-prohibitive.
