Destiny 2: How To Reach 2000 Power Level (2024)

Each new expansion in Destiny 2 raises the Power level cap for each activity. This used to happen with the release of another Season, but Bungie has shifted away from this model. Guardians no longer need to scramble for new gear to climb up to the cap as frequently. Now that The Final Shape has been released, the Power level cap has risen to 2,000. Guardians will slowly increase their strength, but some extra understanding will streamline this process.

Before challenging high-level activities with a new Prismatic build in Destiny 2, Guardians should ensure they are close to the recommended Power listed for the selected difficulty. It makes sense to want to rush end-game content for the extra loot, but this will do a disservice to both yourself and your fellow Guardians. Power level determines how much damage you deal to enemies and how much you take in return. Not only will foes hurt more in difficult activities, but the enemy density will also increase. Reaching the Power cap of an expansion is more complicated than you might think.

How Power Level Works

Slightly Complicated

As stated in-game, "Your character's Power score is the average of their equipped gear." Guardians will need to challenge progressively harder content to obtain better weapons and armor. As you either equip or infuse existing gear with those of a higher level, you will slowly increase this Power score.

In Episode: Echoes and the previous seasonal model, Guardians obtain an artifact upon completing a free story mission. This also adds to the Power score, and the bonus increases by earning experience from Seasonal Challenges, completing Bounties, and completing various activities. Power level in Destiny 2 is more complicated than just earning better gear.

Soft & Hard Caps

In the game, there are three different rarities to gear, and they all appear as Engrams on the ground. Any enemy has a chance to drop either Rare, Legendary, or Exotic loot in Destiny 2. This also applies to reward chests at the end of an activity. Similar to rarity, there are also three different caps for Power level. These are Soft Cap, Hard Cap, and Pinnacle Cap. Soft Cap

The Soft Cap is the easiest milestone to reach and can be raised by earning any gear, regardless of rarity. Obtaining weapons and armor by completing vendor challenges is the easiest way to achieve 1,940.

Hard Cap

Guardians will need to start focusing on rewards from specific activities. Powerful and Pinnacle Gear rewards will raise your level past 1,940 in Episode: Echoes.

Pinnacle Cap

Only Pinnacle Gear rewards will increase a Guardian's Power level above the Hard Cap. Icons for both Powerful and Pinnacle gear can be found on certain activities, such as Vanguard Strikes, Crucible, and Gambit. Below, you can find every source of Powerful Pinnacle Gear. World drops are enough to reach the Soft Cap. Most gear dropped by enemies or earned by completing activities should be of a higher level than the weapons and armor in your inventory.

The Power level system in Destiny 2 is unique, and more is involved than simply gaining better gear. As Guardians rise in level, they also increase in skill. You will need to challenge many activities to reach the Pinnacle Cap. Guardians will face more robust and tougher foes as they climb the ranks. The next expansion will raise the Power Cap once more, and you will need to reach the next Pinnacle Cap in Destiny 2.
