Highlights:

Micael Ramirez (Akron, DH): 2-4, 1 R, 1 HR, 2 RBI - Ramirez is now batting over .400 in June after his fifth two-hit performance of the month. On top of that, both hits were incredibly clutch as his fifth-inning homer tied the game up at three and his single an inning later drove in the go-ahead and eventual winning run. For those wondering, a .436 on-base percentage and .514 lugging percentage round out his June slash.

Joe Lampe (Akron, LF): 1-3, 2 R, 1 HR, 2 RBI, 1 BB, 1 K - Lampe also remained hot by opening his second half with a homer - in his case a two-run shot in the fourth that opened the RubberDucks scoring and tied the game at two. The round-tripper extended his on-base streak to fifteen games, with the last seven of those also constituting a hitting streak. During the latter streak - which includes five multi-base games (and an active four-game multi-base streak) - Joe is slashing .440/.462/.680!

Angel Genao (Lake County, SS): 3-5, 1 R, 1 2B, 2 RBI, 1 SB, 1 E - Genao’s big night at the plate included the Captains’ lone double of the evening and a pair of RBI singles, the latter bringing his RBI total to seven in 16 games since being called up from Single-A Lynchburg on June 3

Matt Wilkinson (Lake County, SP): ND, 4 IP, 4 H, 1 R (earned), 1 BB, 4 K, 1 HR allowed - After a week’s absence from the Captains rotation, Tugboat returned in impressive fashion, coming within one bad pitch of hurling a quartet of shutout frames while averaging a strikeout per inning.

Alex Clemmey (Lynchburg, SP): ND, 4 IP, 2 H, 2 BB, 6 K - Since allowing a trio of earned runs in 2,1 frames on May 18 vs. Delmarva, Clemmey has been dominant, allowing only four earned runs in 23.1 innings (1.54 ERA) with a 34:14 K:BB ratio. His rough April seems to be a distant speck in his proverbial rearview mirror. Whether it keeps him from seeing the Lake County rotation in his rookie season remains to be seen.

Esteban Gonzalez (Lynchburg, LF): 2-4, 1 R, 1 2B, 1 K, 1 SB,1 CS, 1 Outfield Assist - Gonzalez not only retook second alone on the Carolina League leaderboard with this 29th steal of the 2024 campaign, but also threw out a runner at the plate along with amassing three total bases for the second time in his last three games.

Jacob Bresnahan (SP, ACL): 4.2IP, 2H, 3BB, 7K - A few more walk for Bresnahan than he’s had this year so far, but he still struck out seven (had 18 whiffs overall according to reports) and continues to not allow hits or runs. After the draft, I wouldn’t be surprised to see him head to Lynchburg.

SP Manuel Osorio (DSL Mendoza - GM1): 4.1 IP, H, 0 R, BB, 4 Ks, 2 HBPs - It was an impressive performance on the bump by Osorio after 4.1 scoreless innings of work. The 18-year-old lefty allowed just one batter to reach second base in his appearance. It is his longest start of the 2024 season as he lowers his ERA to 1.29 in 14.0 innings pitched.

RP Jonaikel Meza (DSL Mendoza - GM1): S (1), 1.1 IP, H, 0 R, 0 BBs, K - Meza was called upon to secure the four-out save in the sixth inning of Tuesday’s shutout win. The 17-year-old has yet to allow a run in his four appearances and 6.0 innings pitched in 2024.

CF Robert Arias (DSL Mendoza - GM1): 2-for-3, R, 3B, RBI, BB, 2 SBs - The only run-scoring hit for Mendoza in game one came off the bat of the leadoff hitter Arias, a triple in the bottom of the second. He showcased his speed again with a pair of stolen bases as well, giving him 15 on the year. Arias is approaching the .300-mark with a .298 batting average.

CF Juneiker Caceres (DSL Mendoza - GM2): 3-for-4, R, 2B, 3B, 2 RBIs, BB, SB - A homerun was all that Caceres was missing in his 3-for-4 day. His triple scored a pair of runs in the fifth inning to give the team some breathing room with a four-run lead at the time. It is his fourth multi-hit game in the last seven.

C Pedro Dalmagro (DSL Mendoza - GM2): 2-for-2, 2 R, 2B, RBI, 2 BBs - The Mendoza backstop reached base in all four of his trips to the plate with two hits and two walks. His RBI single in the bottom of the third countered a crooked number for the opponents and his leadoff double to begin the fifth sparked a four-run inning.

1B Sebastian Cadiz (DSL Mendoza - GM2): 1-for-2, 2 R, 3B, 3 RBIs, 2 BBs - A two-run triple by Cadiz gave the Mendoza team the lead 8-6 in the fifth and they would not look back from there. The 18-year-old was also credited with an RBI on a bases loaded walk early in the game.

Notable Performances:

Juan Brito (Columbus, 2B): 1-3, 1 R, 1 2B, 1 HBP, 1 K - Brito doubled in the sixth for the only Clipper extra-base hit of the second half opener and scored the Clip Show’s only run of the evening later in the inning.

Kyle Manzardo (Columbus, 1B): 1-4, 1 RBI, 2 K - Manzardo picked up his 23 Triple-A RBI of the season by driving in Brito for the aforementioned tally.

Randy Labaut (Columbus, RP): 3.1 IP, 1 H, 3 BB, 4 K - Labaut performed admirably in log relief to keep the game from getting any further out of hand after starter Jaime Arias’ disastrous outing (six earned runs in 1.2 frames).

John Doxakis (Columbus, RP): 3 IP, 2 H, 1 BB, 4 K - I don’t care that it was a practically zero-leverage situation, three shoutout frames is still impressive.

Petey Halpin (Akron, CF): 2-4, 1 R, 1 BB - After picking up a hit in each of the five games he played last week against Binghamton, Halpin continued the streak on Tuesday with a pair of singles.

Gabriel Rodriguez (Akron, 3B): 2-4, 1 K, 1 E - Rodriguez seems to be readjusting to competitive baseball quickly as his third game back on an active roster was his second two-hit effort in a row and included his first official extra-base hit of the season.

C.J. Kayfus (Akron, 1B): 1-5, 1 2B, 1 K - Another day, another hit for the seemingly unstoppable Kayfus.

Jonah Advincula (Lake County, CF): 1-1, 2 R, 1 RBI, 2 BB, 1 SF, 3 SB - Advincula reached thrice and drove in an insurance run the one time he didn’t on a night when he increased his season stolen base total to 19 with a trio of robberies (including both second and third in the fourth - the latter part of a double steal with 2B Alex Mooney’s 25 of 2024).

Cooper Ingle (Lake County, DH): 1-4, 1 R, 1 RBI, 1 BB, 1 K - Ingle remained hot in the homestand opener after going 7-for-15 with three doubles, a homer, five RBI, and three walks last week in South Bend in an outing that actually lowered his slash line (from .331/.422/.506 to .329/.421/.500).

Guy Lipscomb (Lake County, LF): 1-4, 1 R, 1 3B, 1 RBI, 1 K - Lipscomb got ten evening’s scoring started in the bottom of the second with his third triple of the season.

Adam Tulloch (Lake County, RP): W (3-0), 1 H, 2 K - This summer has been a great one for Tulloch. Since May 28, he has a 1.69 ERA (two earned runs in 10.2 innings).

Magnus Ellerts (Lake County, RP): 1 IP, 1 H, 1 R (earned), 3 K, 1 HR allowed - Ellerts got all three of his outs via strikeout to bring his season total to 44 in 26 innings (15.23 K/9) compared to only 16 walks (2.75 K:BB ratio).

Kevin Rivas (Lynchburg, DH): 1-4, 1 R, 1 2B, 1 RBI, 2 K - The fact that you can argue that this may have been the least impressive of his three game as a Hillcat seems to indicate that he has found his level after starting the season in High-A and then getting demoted to complex ball.

Christian Knapczyk (Lynchburg, 3B): 1-4, 1 R. 1 3B - Knapczyk is now tied for fifth in the Carolina League in triples (and second on the Hillcats behind Wuilfredo Antunez) after hitting his fifth three-bagger of the season on Tuesday.

Jaison Chourio (Lynchburg, CF): 0-3, 1 RBI, 1 SF - Speaking of Hillcat leaderboards, Chourio extended his team-leading RBI total to 44 on a first-inning sac fly.

Kendeglys Virguez (Lynchburg, RP): 2.1 IP, 2 H, 3 K - After a “welcome to non-complex ball” moment (a pitch nearly in the dirt followed by a pitch clock violation to start his Hillcat career), Virguez settled down and impressed in his first outing in front of a crowd of any significant size.

Steven Perez (Lynchburg, RP): 1 IP, perfect, 2 K - Last night's pair of strikeouts brought Perez’s 2024 K:BB ratio to an even 3.00 (45:15).

Welbyn Francisca (2B, ACL): 2-4 - It’s been a slow start for Francisca but it’s good to see him collecting some hits.

Luis Merejo (1B, ACL): 2-4 - Waiting to see more from Merejo this year in the ACL as well, but that’s why it’s not good to trust complex league performances before putting too much stock into a player.

RP Rodarni Salvador (DSL Mendoza - GM1): W (2-1), 1.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, BB, 0 Ks, 2 HBPs - Similarly to Osorio, Salvador also struggled with a few hit by pitches, but was able to come out of it unscathed.

SS Gabriel Rodriguez (DSL Mendoza - GM1): 2-for-4, CS - Along with Arias, Rodriguez held a multi-hit game one with a 2-for-4 performance (two singles).

RP Diovel Mariano (DSL Mendoza - GM2): W (2-0), 4.0 IP, 3 H, R, 0 BBs, 3 Ks - The ball was in the air a little too much (seven flyouts), but the 20-year-old put together a solid outing by allowing just one run to an offense that teed off on the starter.

SS Gabriel Rodriguez (DSL Mendoza - GM2): 1-for-2, 2B, 3 RBIs - A bases clearing double from Rodriguez was the lone hit in just two plate appearances after playing in game one for the team as well.

LF-2B Nomar Velasquez (DSL Mendoza - GM2): 2-for-4, 2 R, RBI - Position versatility was key for Velasquez in a multi-hit game as he moved from the outfield to the infield mid-game.

3B Brayan Guedez (DSL Goryl): 2-for-4, RBI - The 19-year-old drove in a run for the team in the top of the second with an infield single, one of two players with a multi-hit day.

DH Dauri Fernandez (DSL Goryl): 2-for-5, R, RBI, GIDP - The switch-hitting prospect Fernandez had a pair of singles, including the team’s first RBI to go up 1-0 in the first.
