Christina Ricci Has Now Been Cast As 2 Batman Icons (But The 3rd Role She Didn't Get Was Even More Perfect) (2024)

Summary

  • Christina Ricci plays Catwoman in Batman: Caped Crusader, her second major Batman villain role in 2 years.
  • Ricci was considered for Batgirl in 1997's Batman & Robin, highlighting her potential for superhero roles.
  • Her DC casting missed out on the "perfect fit" role, but Ricci has since moved on to two major Batman characters.

Christina Ricci has added a second role as one of the most popular Batman characters from DC Comics; however, the third role that the actress never got would have been the perfect fit for her. Ricci is a very talented actress. She put her name on the map playing Wednesday Addams in two live-action movie adaptations of The Addams Family cartoon. Among Ricci's best movies and series stand other projects like Casper, Mermaids, and other entries when she was still a child star.

More recently, Ricci started to take on roles in popular projects again. The actress returned to her The Addams Family roots in Netflix's Wednesday. While she was too old to reprise her role as Wednesday Addams in the show, Ricci played a pivotal role opposite Jenna Ortega's version of the morbid teen. Ricci is also an important member of the hit series Yellowjackets. While she has yet to be cast in one of the announced projects in the new DC Universe, Ricci has just been cast for her second Batman-related role, though a third lost character was her ideal one.

Christina Ricci's Catwoman Casting Is Her 2nd DC Villain Role In 2 Years

The Actress Plays Two Major Batman Villains

The cast for Batman: Caped Crusader has been announced. Midnight Mass' Hamish Linklater will star as Batman, with the animated series hailing from superstar executive producers Matt Reeves, Bruce Timm, and J. J. Abrams. The animated series premieres August 1 and will feature new takes on several key characters from Batman's corner of DC Comics. Ricci will play Catwoman in Batman: Caped Crusader, with her version of the character not wearing her default black leather comics suit, instead donning the character's original purple costume.

Ricci's playful and charming Catwoman will mark the second time the actress plays a major Batman villain in under two years. In January 2023, the DC audio drama Harley Quinn and The Joker: Sound Mind was released. Ricci was the one chosen to lend her voice to Harley Quinn. The project put Ricci's Dr. Harleen Quinzel in the spotlight, as it focused on Harley Quinn's origin story, told from her side of the events. As her father gets sick, Harleen goes down a dangerous path with Billy Magnussen's Patient J, aka the Joker. Check out the project's synopsis below:

Harley Quinn & The Joker: Sound Mind promises to tell an original story told from Harley Quinn’s perspective, set in her days at Arkham. When listeners meet Harley, she’s still Dr. Harleen Quinzel, a gifted psychologist at Arkham Asylum in Gotham City determined to help the patients her colleagues have written off. But her dad is sick and in need of an expensive life-saving operation Harleen can’t afford. So, when she meets “Patient J,” a unique criminal who seems to have a strange power over everyone but her, Harleen makes a fateful decision: to use her relationship with J to get what she needs, leading both of them down a dangerous path that will change their lives forever.

Ricci's Lost DC Role Was The Most Perfect Casting

The Actress Could Have Played A Hero

Ricci was one of the actresses considered for Batgirl in 1997's Batman & Robin. While the role ultimately went to Alicia Silverstone, a young Ricci would have been uniquely suited to bring the character to life. Though Joel Schumacher had taken over the franchise, Ricci would have played Batgirl in the remnants of director Tim Burton's Gotham City, furthering their link from The Addams Family movies. Ricci would have been a perfect fit for Batgirl in that universe, suiting whatever dark or comedic scene came her way. At least Christina Ricci has moved on to other major Batman characters.
